The Move

"Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest, if we do not give up. Therefore as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers." (Gal. 6:9-10)

Many of you know that my youngest daughter was in the process of buying a home of her own. She closed on her house Friday afternoon. That's why I have not been to blogging land for a few days.

Karen had been living at home but since she works in a small town about 30 miles away, she decided, with gas as high as it is that she needed to move to that side of town. So, Friday afternoon at 2pm she put her name on the dotted line, and now is a home owner.

She was bound and determined that she was going to sleep in her house on Friday night. She and I spent a few nights packing her things, and preparing for the move. On Friday her brother came into town to help. We thought that we would have a few more guys to help out, but as it happened, it was just the three of us.

We moved her in on Friday and helped her start to put away her things. It was 7:45pm, before Phillip and I returned the truck to the rental company.... but we were not finished yet. Karen had a table and chairs that were also in storage, but that she is not going to be using. So, we had to pack them into the back of my SUV, and unload them at her sister, Betsy's home. I believe that it was around 8:30, before we actually arrived at home.

Then Saturday, we returned with her dad, Betsy and Nathan to help her get some more things in order. We hung pictures, bought groceries and various things that she needed to start house keeping.

After we returned home, her dad was thanking our son for being such a BIG part of the move.

He said, "Dad, if I can't be The Church to my family, who can I be the church to?"

This child is such a sweetheart, he is constantly thinking of other people and putting himself out for them.

And is this not what we are called to do? Be the Church...........

Today, as I was reading a book by Vince Antonucci called I BECAME A CHRISTIAN AND ALL I GOT WAS THIS LOUSY T-SHIRT, I read about a time when Vince was trying to have some time to himself, but ended up helping out a man who was an alien to the country, first by helping him fill out a job application and then by feeding him and spending time with him. At the end of the day, the man asked if Vince was God. Vince said "no... I am not God. I'm trying to show you the love of God."

"No. Today you love me," The man said,"You help me, you feed me. Who is God? He loves, He helps, He feeds, today, you are God to me." In the theological sense, the man was wrong. But in another sense, he was right. God has asked us to represent Him, to be His ambassadors.

I want to publicly thank my son for being God's representative, not only to his little sister, but to his dad and me!!! We love you precious boy!!

"This is my prayer, that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight." (Phil. 1:9)

Father, thank you for love that knows no end. For love of family. For those who show your love to this world is such powerful ways, consistently, unselfishly, and unconditionally. May your love abound more and more so that others may see Jesus in us. Amen

Wonderful post. I know how tiring a move can be after moving last year. But how great the attitude of your son.
Blessings.
